So, the numbers summed for the month of January: 162,962 layoffs. And of course, that’s the conservative number – we know, for instance, IBM has a lot more layoffs in store than they’ve got listed so far.

Meanwhile, gotta love that the Super Bowl had ads from both Monster and Careerbuilder. I’m tellin’ ya – this is about the hippest time to be unemployed yet. We are so in.

One of 70,000

That’s how many job cuts were announced today. It’s a pretty big number. Of course, some people are still just blaming the mood.

Me, I’m more scared of this guy.

Lighten Up II

Think it's 'cause he got hired? Me neither.

Think it's 'cause he got hired? Me neither.

I was looking for some humorous jokes from those recently laid off, but every link I found went to a website that no longer exists. Seems the unemployed can’t afford their own domains. That’s funny enough by itself.

6 am? I swear, I’ll do better.

Posted by The eDater on January 25, 2009

I woke up at 6 am this morning. That’s shameful. It’s like I still have a job.

If the copywriters selling flirt-chat lines at 3:30 am can’t count on the eyeballs of the unemployed – not to mention that extra scent of desperation – who can they count on? I’m not holding up my end of the bargain.

I blame Vermont. It gets dark very early. There’s nothing to do. If you’re still up at midnight, it feels like you’re the only one. It feels like the whole night has already passed.

And it doesn’t help that the flirt-chat line commercials start at 10. Vermont’s early country.

Well, I’ll be moving down to cheap family rent in the city soon enough. I hope to improve my lack of schedule then.

And today, I was able to roll back over and nap until 9:30. That’s something. It’s something dammit!
